A gray feral cat

Island Cat Allies

We are a non-profit organization committed to managing the feral cat population of Bogue Banks, an island in North Carolina that stretches from Emerald Isle to Atlantic Beach. ICA is composed of volunteers who are dedicated to protecting and improving the lives of the many feral cats who live on our island.
Our feral cats are managed through a program called TNR that stands for Trap-Neuter-Return. Under this program, cats are humanely trapped and taken to a veterinarian to be neutered or spayed and vaccinated. After recovery in the home of a volunteer, the cats are returned to their living area where a caretaker will provide food and water daily.

About Us

Island Cat Allies was founded in 2003 by a small group of compassionate Emerald Isle residents concerned about the growing population of the feral cats. The residents united to form ICA to alleviate the hunger and suffering of feral cats in our community. In the last few years, ICA expanded to include all of the Bogue Banks from Emerald Isle to Atlantic Beach.
Over the years, ICA has humanely managed and reduced the feral cat population using the method adopted throughout the country called TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return). The lives of hundreds of feral cats have been improved through regular feeding, vaccinations, medical care, and spaying or neutering. In addition, the number of cats on the island has been significantly reduced.

Adopt?

Island Cat Allies is not in the adoption business, but on rare occasions we get a special cat or kitten that we think deserves a chance at a good home. Our adoptable cats and kittens free roaming and in the care of foster families who bring up their foster "kids" as family pets and are very often introduced to other pets to help them be well rounded companions.
If you're in the market for a new feline friend, please click here for our Facebook page or click here for our Petfinder page to see our foster and adoptable cats and consider giving one of these cats the love and attention she or he deserves.

Foster a Cat

Sometimes we get kittens or special case cats that we believe would make a great companion. These cats need a place to live for a little while and someone to love them and "bring them along" to being the ideal house cat. A foster parent will handle and socialize a cat until the cat is comfortable being with humans and therefore able to go to a full time home.

Occasionally we come across a friendly cat who was dropped when their owners left, or just got lost. Sometimes this cat turns out to be pregnant or has just had kittens. In that case, we will try to get the cats adopted to good, loving homes. Until then, we need someone to take care of them for a few weeks until they are ready to go.

Everyone knows kittens are fun to watch. Fostering them is a great way to enjoy the fun of a kitten without the long term committment of owning a cat!
